About  the  play

Set in Hawai‘i during that state’s run-up to marriage equality, Joker combines gay political drama and family drama to tell the story of Joe: a man trying to support his family and keep the promises he’s made — while keeping despair at bay.  Will the life he’s managed to carefully construct come crashing down around him?

Joker premiered at Earle Ernst Lab Theatre in Honolulu in December, 2014. The director of the world premier, Matthew Kelty, has assisted in the play's development. Joker is a finalist of The Kennedy Center National Partners of the American Theatre Playwriting Award, and has won a Best Original Script Award from The Hawai'i Theatre Council.  Upcoming performances including the FringeNYC 2015 in August and the Kumu Kahua Theatre production in September.
